In the first of his new ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) Thriller series, Matt Rees puts a spotlight on another part of Homeland Security that we seldom hear about but one that is avidly fighting the war on terror.  This one will grab you from the first page.

ICE Special Agent Dominic Verrazzano is facing the worst nightmare for those working to keep the US safe.  He has uncovered a plot to launch a chemical attack in New York.  But – and here’s the nightmare part – he has no idea who, what, where or when.

When the one person who might have had some answers is murdered, he must rely on the last message she sent him.  It’s a clue that will lead him to Syria, in the middle of a civil war, to track the weapon and those involved.  Mr. Rees depicts the “new normal” for Syria with death and destruction a constant.

What adds to the tension of this story is its very plausibility.  It is so easy to imagine this happening right in the midst of New York.   It also provides a picture of just how demanding the work of keeping us safe can be.  Don’t be surprised if you find yourself holding your breath while Verrazzano chases the culprits.

Now that he’s off to a good with this series, we’ll be looking forward to the next in the series.
