The Detective Jack Yu series takes us to New York’s Chinatown with all its quirks, tongs and, well . . . crime.  The Italian Mafia “family” wars are infamous.  But here, we have a twist on that theme.

When gang boss “Lucky” Louie is shot outside an OTB site in Chinatown, it will be just the first step in acts of revenge that will test the loyalties of old friends.  Lucky lies in a coma for 88 days (a super lucky number for the Chinese) and awakes determined to carry out his new plan against the Chinatown criminal underground.

Jack Yu was raised in Chinatown and considers Lucky a brother.  He will do all he can to stop his friend’s revenge and protect him.  But this will test his allegiance to both friend and police force.

Mr. Chang captures the drama and pathos of a simmering Chinatown.

Vicki Delany

This delightful new series is the current answer to both Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle.  British expat Gemma Doyle runs the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium in West London on Cape Cod.  Her great-uncle Arthur (who claims distant relation to Conan Doyle) started the business as an extension of his Sherlock hobby.

When Gemma finds an original 1887 magazine – of priceless value -- carrying Doyle’s first-ever novel (A Study in Scarlet) left in her shop, she will be drawn into a real-life murder mystery.  Her search for the woman who left it will lead her first to one murder and then another.

Like the famous sleuth, Gemma has an eye for detail and deduction.  This will only further convince an ambitious detective that Gemma is the murderer.  Any evidence she uncovers to the contrary is twisted to make her appear even guiltier.

Delany includes a fascinating cast of characters – some cozy, some dangerous and ALL possible suspects in what turns out to be the intrigue of a wealthy Boston family.  I promise, you will NOT be able to figure out “whodunit!”  A perfect read in front of a cozy fire or sunbathing on the beach.
